CARDIOVASCULAR B-type natriuretic peptide predicts long-term survival after major non-cardiac surgery

چکیده
Editor’s key points † B-type natriuretic peptide (BNP) is a marker of left ventricular systolic dysfunction. † This study confirmed an association between elevated preoperative BNP and perioperative major adverse cardiac events. † The optimum cut-off value for identifying patients at risk of postoperative adverse outcomes remains unclear. Background. The prediction of long-term survival after surgery is complex. Natriuretic peptides can predict short-term postoperative cardiac morbidity and mortality. This study aims to determine the long-term prognostic significance of preoperative B-type natriuretic peptide (BNP) concentration after major non-cardiac surgery.

متن کاملUtility of B-type natriuretic peptide in predicting medium-term mortality in patients undergoing major non-cardiac surgery.
This study was conducted to assess the ability of preoperative B-type natriuretic peptide levels to predict medium-term mortality in patients who undergo major noncardiac surgery. During a median of 654 days of follow-up, 33 patients from a total cohort of 204 patients (16%) died, 17 from cardiovascular causes. The optimal cutoff in this cohort, determined using a receiver-operating characteris...
متن کاملDiagnostic Value of N Terminal Pro B Type Natriuretic Peptide (NT-pro BNP) in Cardiac Involvement in Patients with Beta- Thalassemia
Background Heart failure is a major cause of death in thalassemia. The study aimed to determine the diagnostic value of N Terminal Pro B Type Natriuretic Peptide (NT-pro BNP), to early diagnose the cardiac involvement in beta- thalassemia major patients. Materials and Methods 80 thalassemia patients aged 7 to 18 years old (patients group), and 80 healthy age and gender matched controls were ...
متن کاملClinical and Biochemical Assessments of Circulating B-Type Natriuretic Peptide as a Useful Marker in Pediatric Cardiac Patients
Background Although the left ventricle is the major site of BNP secretion in response to cardiac pressure or volume overload, the myocytes of both atria and ventricles secrete B- type natriuretic peptide (BNP). This study aimed to assess and compare the plasma levels of BNP in common pediatric cardiac diseases to clarify its pathophysiological role and evaluate its po...
